Voices In My Head Podcast Episode 323: Keith Getty and Sing! 2019
My guest this week on Voices In My Head is Keith Getty. Keith and his wife Kristyn Getty occupy a unique space in the world of music today as preeminent modern hymn writers. In re-inventing the traditional hymn form, they have created a catalogue of songs teaching Christian doctrine and crossing the genres of traditional, classical, folk and contemporary composition which are sung the world over.
“In Christ Alone” (penned by Keith and long-time writing partner, Stuart Townend) holds the #1 position of most-frequently-sung hymn in UK churches for the past 9 consecutive years. It was voted the #2 best-loved hymn of all time in the UK according to a BBC Songs of Praise national survey and among the top 5 hymns of all time by the UK Hymns Society. According to CCLI, it is estimated that 40 to 50 million people sing “In Christ Alone” in church services each year.
The Gettys' hymns are used both in contemporary and traditional circles, being included in most modern hymnbooks (with a number of these now listing “Getty” as the most-featured composers), while in the more contemporary church, more than 60 of their songs are featured on top 2,000 CCLI charts between the UK and USA.
The Gettys also created Sing! Concerts, Events and Conferences which exist to inspire deep theology, timeless artistry and vibrant singing for the whole family of God in cities across the world.
There is more a lot I could say about the art, artistry, and more importantly the ministry of Keith Getty, but I would rather let him speak for himself. Keith Getty, welcome to Voices In My Head.

Voices In My Head Podcast Episode 322: Eli Williams - Author of Father Love
Eli Williams is a husband, father, grandfather and minister. He is the president and co-founder of Urban Light Ministries which provides a weekly after school program that serves 600 children. ULM operates a growing fatherhood program that annually impacts over 500 dads and their kids.
His passion for fatherhood is rooted in his upbringing and is stoked by his personal work with fathers. Many of whom, for a wide variety of reasons, endure heartache and face tremendous barriers to full participation in the raising of their children. He penned Father Love in the hope that it would encourage and inspire fathers to make every effort to be a big part of their children's lives. He challenges dads to move from good to great as protectors, order keepers, providers and stabilizers.
Eli is the host of the weekly syndicated gospel countdown show Hot Gospel 20 (www.hotgospel20.com). He is a pastor at New Hope Church in Springfield, Ohio where he is deeply involved in serving his community.

Voices In My Head Podcast Episode 318: Dr. Julie Galambush - Hidden Truths: Why Translators Intentionally Mistranslate the Bible
This podcast was recorded on May 1st, 7:30 PM at Temple Sholom in Springfield Ohio. It is a lecture delivered by Dr. Julie Galambush. Dr. Galambush is the author of The Reluctant Parting: How the New Testament’s Jewish Writers Created a Christian Book. She received her Ph.D. in Old Testament studies from Emory University and her master of divinity degree from Yale Divinity School.
The Lecture: Hidden Truths: Why Translators Intentionally Mistranslate the Bible
Translators often choose between showing readers what the Bible does say and what they believe it should say. Strangely, the very fact that translators often believe in the Bible’s authority means they tend to “correct” it--making it say what it should, even when it says something very different. So, what is it that translators don’t want you to know?

Voices In My Head Podcast Episode 317: Dr. Julie Galambush - Luke-Acts and the Creation of Christianity
This podcast was recorded on April 30, 7:30 PM at Temple Sholom in Springfield Ohio.
The Lecture: Luke-Acts and the Creation of Christianity. The author of Luke-Acts created the now-familiar worldview in which Christianity is simultaneously the fulfillment and the rejection of the Jewish community. In a sad irony, the New Testament narrative that begins by saying God has remembered his people Israel ends with the announcement that God has turned away from the Jews.

Voices In My Head Podcast Episode 316: In Conversation with Islam - Dr. Akber Mohammed
On the 21st of April 2019, Easter Sunday, three Christian churches across Sri Lanka and three luxury hotels in the commercial capital Colombo were targeted in a series of coordinated terrorist suicide bombings The Sri Lankan government said the bombings might have been in retaliation for the killing of 50 people last month at mosques in New Zealand, and that two Islamist extremist groups might have been involved, not one.
More than two days after the Sri Lanka bombings, the Islamic State claimed responsibility for the coordinated attacks. The group identified the seven suicide bombers by their names, and specified which of them had gone to which target on what it called “the infidel holiday.”
As the first mass funerals were held, grief, for some, turned into into anger. Some began speaking of of retaliation and revenge. Muslim-owned shops were vandalized, and hundreds of Muslim families fled religiously mixed areas.
In contrast, Members of Sri Lanka’s Muslim community have reached out to their neighbors, offering to donate food and blood.
The chairman of one mosque was quoted “We would do anything to help, We are so pained.”
But with the attacks still so fresh and tensions so high, some Muslims were warned to hold back for now.
Today on Voices In My Head I am pleased to welcome Dr. Akber Mohammed and a members of the Islamic faith community here in Springfield Ohio as we deal with some of these hard topics in conversation together.
Dr. Akber Mohammed, the former president of the Islamic Association in Springfield Ohio, is also a cardiologist affiliated with multiple hospitals in the Clark County Ohio area, including Dayton Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Mercy Health Urbana Hospital. He was a part of the CBS News Documentary Beyond Tolerance in 2017 and has been instrumental in Islamic Day Ohio festivities.

Voices In My Head Podcast Episode 314: Calvary Movie Reflection
This week is Holy Week 2019 and as I have done every Holy Week since 2014 when it released, I am revisiting the film Calvary and sharing some reflections on the film.
Disclaimer #1: The audio on today's episode turned out to not be great. I'm not sure why there is so much background noise on the audio but given the nature of the episode I couldn't rerecord it so it is what it is.
Disclaimer #2: This is not an endorsement for you to go and see the film Calvary, which is Rated R, and is a very difficult and disturbing film. This episode simply shares my reflections on why the film has been important and formative in my life and why I revisit it each Holy Week.
Disclaimer #3: I am in no way associated with the film, is director, or anyone involved in the making of the film. I'm just a guy who watched it.
