Voices In My Head (The Rick Lee James Podcast) - Episode 530 - Justin Gambino
“Made New,” the second full-length studio recording from acclaimed singer/songwriter Justin Gambino, released on Aug. 25. Tracing his prodigal years and the abounding grace and mercy Gambino embraced when he finally returned to the father, “Made New” was produced by Nashville-based session player and producer Walter Halliwell.
An autobiographical collection of emotive pop anthems and vulnerable ballads, “Made New” features 13 selections all written or co-penned by Gambino. Lead single “Fighting On My Behalf,” a percolating, synth-infused pop track available now, is Gambino’s personal testimony to God’s steadfast love and care.
“As an artist who desires to reach and encourage people in their own journey, it can be quite exhausting out on the road,” he said of the inspiration behind “Fighting On My Behalf.” “Touring will always come with opposition and setbacks, but it's so important to press on and remember who goes before me. Exodus 14:14 says, ‘The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.’ At a time in my life when I was facing schedule changes, canceled events and the loss of income, I needed to remind myself to be still and take heart that God was fighting for me.”
Additional highlights of “Made New” include “Mercy,” a modern psalm of gratitude available Aug. 11 upon preorder of the album; the poignant “A Father’s Heart,” a simple plea for God’s revelation amidst struggle and unbelief; “Bring Me Home,” the encapsulation of Gambino’s prodigal journey; and the album’s buoyant folk-rock opener, “Courage.”
“ ‘Courage' was inspired by all the people who have encouraged me on this journey, and I hope it encourages them in return,” Gambino shared. “The only way I can continue each day is to look to the one who breathes his very breath into my lungs. He keeps me from letting go or losing hope. My prayer for this song is that it will be an anthem for those who need that reminder, as well.”

About the Author
Matt Sanders has been a chaplain for 30 years. He started serving as a chaplain at a juvenile detention center, volunteered in two men's prisons along the way, and has been a hospital chaplain for about 20 years now.
His book, Chaplaincy: A Ministry of Presence, has been transformational for me as I have been working as a chaplain myself, so I find it a great honor to visit with Matt today.
Matt just self-published a new book called, "Let God Love You," which is a message he finds so life-giving.

Voices In My Head (The Rick Lee James Podcast)
Matt K. Lewis and Filthy Rich Politicians
Book Description:
From one of America's sharpest conservative journalists is this searing, thought-provoking and hilarious takedown of the ruling class running amok in Washington.
These are your elected officials. Some are slyly taking advantage of the system. They are hoping no one is savvy enough to notice. But Matt Lewis has. And this is what he’s learned.
Today’s politicians are an unsavory lot—a hybrid of plutocrats and hypocrites. And it’s worse (and more laughable) than you can imagine. Lewis will introduce you to a crop of latte liberals, ivy league populists, insider traders, trust-fund babies, and swamp creatures as he exposes how truly ludicrous money in politics has gotten.
In Filthy Rich Politicians, Lewis embarks on an investigative deep dive into the ridiculous state of modern American democracy—a system where the rich get elected and the elected get rich. One of the brightest conservative writers of his generation, Lewis doesn’t just complain: he articulates how Americans can achieve accountability from their elected leaders through radically commonsense reforms. But many of these ruling-class elites have a vested financial interest in rejecting the reforms so desperately needed to rebuild Americans’ trust in the institutions that once made our nation great.
This is not an “eat the rich” kind of book, and it is not for those who want to stoke class warfare, topple the whole regime, and burn it all to the ground. This is a must-read book for thoughtful readers who yearn for transparency and will commit to holding their elected leaders accountable to those they are supposed to represent—we the people.
The reforms spelled out in this book would incentivize good behavior in our leaders, stymie corruption, and prevent politicians from using the system (and our taxpayer dollars) to feather their filthy rich nests.
It is only by taking these steps to reform the system that we can rebuild trust in our institutions and preserve American democracy for future generations. There really is no richer inheritance we could leave them.
